The Next-Gen Treasure Hunt is an virtual store mini hunt game which offers to all potential customers to get a virtual exploration experience in virtual Sam's Club.
|
|
Entry point
Redesign Treasure Hunt version 1, which was only support in-store exploration experience. |
Challenge
|
How to get start from scratch to build this project?
How to connect with backend data? The Next-Gen Treasure Hunt is going to attract more members to join the Club. We plan to use VR-like to enable online potential customers ( mobile-web / pc) to have an in-club member digital experience. Enable a digital-to-physical experience for online all potential customers to encourage them to become our members. |
Research
|
I conducted qualitative research at the initial stages of the project. I interviewed associates and managers to define what problems we were facing:
1. Attract ( how to engage in more people to join) 2. Retain ( member stickiness ) 3. Convert ( potential members ) |
Ideation |
From all the conversation with Managers and some associates, I started from these points:
○ Which platform better for customers(member + potential member)? VR exploration, we may need more equipment ( Oculus, HoloLens, or HTC Vive?), however, the popularity is not high enough like mobile and PC.
○ Journey exploration with products
I decided to make a VR-like first person view exploration experience to make every one from online engage in. At the inception phase, the customer(or player) chooses exploration products (in the future: promotion ). During mini hunt, it indicates to the customer to get all lists of products, redeem with QR code ( generate code from backend system), complete the all process. The main goal is to encourage customers(or players) to become our members. ○ I choose a digital platform because customers (or players) can play alone in anytime without to local store.
Work process:From scratch to POC Demo.
First I build a 3D store which mimics Sam's Club. Second, I chose the MVP products. Then, I designed an exploration experience route in Unreal Engine. I follow all the lists of what actions the game needs to take. (Pick up, drop off, UI display etc.) At the end, it connected to a backend data service. 1. Build A Store map. 2. Setting interactive products (promotion products) 3. Set POI (Points of interests) & mini map on the digital exploration experience. 5. Make a game route. 6. Record gameplay and edit a demo video. Then based on the functions, I created an Information Architecture Map to helped us understand how the customers navigate through the mini hunt game.
